BTG – EkoSonic® Endovascular System

EKOS Corporation: EkoSonic System

Ekosonic2Thromboembolic diseases are the cause of significant morbidity and mortality. As is well known, Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) is a serious medical condition, potentially fatal, and frequently associated with serious clinical consequences: pulmonary embolism and, in the long term, post-thrombotic syndrome (PTS); this disease is often highly debilitating and with high social costs. In parallel, peripheral arterial occlusions can lead to many complications, including amputation and death. A fast action that leads to the rapid dissolution of the thrombus may be useful to reduce complications.

Conventionally, special anticoagulants are used to resolve deep vein thrombosis. However, this anticoagulants do not eliminate completely the existing thrombus and are not very effective in the prevention of SPT.
Technological progress has made available a new method based on ultrasound that provides significant benefits for patients and cost savings overall.
Ultrasounds are able to accelerate the dissolution of the thrombus and to maximize the loco-regional benefits of thrombolysis minimizing the risks.

ekos_mach4This new technology is based on the use of the EkoSonic® Endovascular System consists of a catheter for the release of the thrombolytic drug, within which is inserted a device for the emission of ultrasonic waves of low intensity and high frequency.

The ultrasound thrombolysis further accelerate the process without any kind of mechanical risk on the thrombus. The disposable endovascular device is associated with a separate control unit, easy to use, which manages the ultrasound therapy independently and allows to evaluate performance of the treatment with an intuitive interface.
Thanks to this system it is possible to obtain significant benefits:

• Complete dissolution of the thrombus
• Reduction of the dosage of drugs
• Reduction of bleeding complications
• Decreased response times
• Reduction of hospitalization
• Reduced exposure to UV
• Absence of haemolysis
• Reduction of distal embolism: ultrasound does not fragment the thrombus

EkoSonic® Endovascular System is produced by EKOS Corporation and is distributed exclusively in Italy by our company, MOSS S.p.A., a leader in the field of technological and scientific innovations.
